Biography

Senator Steve Roberts represents Missouri's 5th Senatorial District, which includes part of St. Louis City. He was first sworn into the Missouri State Senate on January 6, 2021, after serving two terms in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2017 to 2020. In the Senate, he has been selected as Democratic Whip for the Minority Caucus and, following his re-election in November 2024 with 89% of the vote, elevated to Assistant Minority Floor Leader. Notable achievements include securing over $70 million in funding for St. Louis and the 5th District in the 2023 session, chairing the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus in the House, and recognition in 2021 by the Judicial Conference of Missouri for promoting a fair judiciary. He serves as a Captain in the Missouri Air National Guard's JAG Corps, graduating as Senior Ranking Officer from the U.S. Air Force’s Judge Advocate Staff Officer Course, and is managing partner of Roberts Law, LLC. Previously, he worked as a prosecutor for the City of St. Louis, handling over 100 cases post-Ferguson, and as an attorney at AP Wireless Infrastructure Partners managing significant assets.

  • Education: Earned a J.D. from Pepperdine Caruso School of Law ; member of the Missouri Bar, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, Mound City Bar Association, and founder/former president of the St. Louis chapter of the National Black Prosecutors Association.
