Biography
Steve Livingston is a Republican politician serving as the Majority Leader of the Alabama State Senate, representing District 8 . A businessman from Scottsboro, Alabama, he owns The Fuel Center, Inc. , a distributor of Chevron gasoline and lubricants, since 1981. He is a father of four children and grandfather of seven, married to Sandra, and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Notable achievements include election to the Senate in 2014 as a first-time candidate, with re-elections in 2018 and 2022; elevation to Majority Leader by Republican colleagues in 2023; tax cuts, expansion of high-speed internet access, and leading the transformation of the Alabama Department of Labor into the Department of Workforce Development. He supports law enforcement, farmers, rural opportunities, and opposes government overreach, earning recognition in GOPAC's 2019 Emerging Leaders Class and Yellowhammer's 2024 Power & Influence List.
Education and Political Experience
Education: Graduate of Scottsboro High School; attended the University of Alabama. Achieved Eagle Scout rank and grew up working on his family's cattle farm, emphasizing hard work and problem-solving.
Political Experience: Elected to Alabama State Senate District 8 in 2014, re-elected 2018 and 2022; Majority Leader since 2023. Serves on committees including Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry; Banking and Insurance; Rules; Tourism; Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Energy Policy; Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Finances and Budget; and Vice Chair of Senate Committee on Local Legislation and Senate Committee on Reapportionment. Former Chair, Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development Committee. Community roles include Scottsboro Industrial Development Board, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Leadership Jackson County founding member.
