Biography
Steve Johnson is a Democratic member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 34A in Harford County. Born on December 30, 1960, in Garrison, Kentucky, he assumed office on January 9, 2019, after winning a narrow 2018 election victory over incumbent Glen Glass by 165 votes. Notable achievements include serving as Deputy Majority Whip since 2023 and Chair of the Pharmaceuticals Subcommittee of the Health Committee in 2026. He owns Johnson Family Pharmacy in Aberdeen, served as Director of Economic Development for Aberdeen from 2005 to 2017, and is a member of the Aberdeen Auxiliary Police.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended Shady Spring High School in Shady Spring, West Virginia, and Raleigh County Vocational Technical Center. Holds a high school diploma.
- Early Career: Served in the U.S. Army National Guard ; worked in various roles including construction supervisor at Baltimore Construction Company , JC Electric Inc. , and others in automotive, manufacturing, and distribution; owned rental property management and commercial cleaning companies.
- Political Experience: Unsuccessful 2014 run for District 34A and 2007 Aberdeen City Council bid ; elected to House in 2018; serves on Health Committee and Joint Audit and Evaluation Committee ; previously on Health and Government Operations Committee ; Deputy Majority Whip .
