Biography
Steve Demetriou represents Ohio's 35th House District, which includes portions of Geauga, Portage, and Summit counties. Born in 1989, he was first elected in 2022 following redistricting and re-elected in 2024 with 52.6% of the vote. He is currently serving his second term, acting as majority whip for the 136th General Assembly and serving on the Development, Small Business, Technology and Innovation, and Ways and Means committees. Notable achievements include receiving the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, and being named Ohio's 2025 American Legion Legislator of the Year. He has focused on technology policy , fiscal policy, tax relief, and Republican budget measures. After military service, he built and sold a small business employing over 60 people and now runs family investment businesses. He lives with his wife Carly and their three sons, and serves on the parish council at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Studied economics at the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 2011 with Dean’s List honors and a bachelor’s degree.
- Military Service: Commissioned as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army; completed Army Ranger School and Airborne training ; served in Afghanistan as a platoon leader.
- Business Experience: Founded and grew a small business from 3 to over 60 employees, navigating challenges like COVID; later sold it and now manages family investment and small businesses.
- Political Experience: Elected to Ohio House in 2022 ; re-elected 2024; majority whip ; key legislation on digital assets, state budgets, property tax relief, and flat income tax.
