Biography

Senator Steve Conway

Steve Conway is a Democratic senator representing Washington's 29th Legislative District, which includes South Tacoma, East Lakewood, and Parkland in Pierce County. He has served the district since 1993, initially as a State Representative for 18 years before transitioning to the Senate in 2011.

Conway is known as a fierce advocate for working people, particularly those in the healthcare industry. He champions collective bargaining rights and workers' rights, viewing them as human rights. Throughout his career, he has focused on protecting health care, working conditions, and retirement benefits for Washington's workforce. He has also pushed for legislation supporting vulnerable communities, including initiatives for affordable housing and shelters for the homeless and domestic violence victims.

In his personal life, Conway has been married to his wife Georgia, a retired Children's Specialist for the Tacoma Public Library system, since 1968. They have two sons and four grandchildren.

Education

Conway earned a Master's degree in history and a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Oregon. He also served as a Fulbright Scholar at the London School of Economics.

Political Experience

Before entering electoral politics, Conway worked as a business agent for the United Food and Commercial Worker's Union, Local 81, where he secured living wages, safe workplaces, and equitable benefits for working people and their families.
