Biography
Steve Carra is a Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 36th District . Born on February 22, 1989, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he was first elected in 2020 to the 59th District, assumed office on January 1, 2021, and following redistricting, won reelection in the 36th District in 2022 and 2024. He resides in Three Rivers, is single, and is a Christian involved with the Cass County Tea Party. Notable achievements include introducing House Bill 5444, the "fetal heartbeat protection act," in 2021, and current committee roles such as chairing the Oversight Subcommittee on Corporate Subsidies & State Investments, and serving on the Oversight Subcommittee on State & Local Assistance Programs, Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, and Oversight Committee.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Portage High School; earned bachelor's degrees in economics and political science from Western Michigan University in 2011.
- Political Experience: Research associate at the Acton Institute; staffer for State Representative Steve Johnson for three years; elected to Michigan House in 2020 , reelected to District 36 in 2022 and 2024; has served three sessions, with prior committees including Agriculture, Transportation, Financial Services, Military, Veterans, and Homeland Security, and Joint Committee on Administrative Rules.
