Biography
Stephen M. Ross is a Republican representing North Carolina House District 63 . A Burlington native, he has over three decades in public service, including as mayor of Burlington, Burlington City Council member, and Chairman of the Piedmont Triad Regional Council of Governments. Currently in his sixth term as a financial advisor by occupation, he announced in early 2026 he will not seek re-election to spend more time with family, finishing his term in 2026. Notable positions include Chairman of the Commerce and Jobs Development Committee, Chairman of the Pension and Retirement Committee, Vice Chairman of the Finance Committee, and service on committees like Banking, Judiciary II, Local Government, Transportation, Ethics, Rules, Calendar and Operations, State and Local Government, and Insurance. He was reelected in 2022 after losing in 2020.

- Education: Graduate of Walter M. Williams High School , Elon University, and attended graduate school at North Carolina State University.
- Political Experience: Elected to NC House in 2012 , reelected 2022; previously Burlington City Council , Chairman of Piedmont Triad Council of Governments, member of Alamance County Mayors’ Committee for Persons with Disabilities, and National League of Cities Public Safety & Crime Prevention Committee. Additional roles: President of Alamance Division of American Heart Association, Piedmont Triad Regional Transportation Board, Piedmont Triad Economic Development Partnership, and Economic Development Board of Alamance County Chamber of Commerce. Select committee service includes School Safety, COVID-19 and Community Relations, and Law Enforcement and Justice.
