Biography
Stephanie Stahl Hamilton is a Democratic member of the Arizona House of Representatives, representing District 21. Born in Flagstaff, Arizona, she spent her early childhood on Navajo Tribal Lands and now resides in Tucson with her husband Derek, a middle school teacher, their three children, and two dogs. An ordained Presbyterian minister, she has focused her career on youth and community service, including roles as Executive Director of Montlure Presbyterian Church Camp and Director of Youth Ministry at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: BA in Christian Education from Eastern Nazarene College ; MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary .
- Political Experience: First elected to the Arizona House for District 10 in 2020; appointed to the Arizona Senate for District 10 ; elected to the Arizona House for District 21 , with reelections in 2022 and 2024. Currently serves as Ranking Member on the Appropriations Committee and on Government, Land, Agriculture and Rural Affairs committees, plus Joint Oversight Committees .
Notable Achievements and Positions
- Led efforts to refer SB1431 to the ballot as Proposition 305 and served as Regional Lead for Save Our Schools Arizona to oppose voucher expansion.
- Served on Tucson Unified School District's Family Life Curriculum Committee, updating it for inclusivity.
- Sponsored HB2677, repealing Arizona's 1864 anti-abortion law .
