Biography
Spiros Mantzavinos is a Democratic member of the Delaware Senate representing District 7, which includes Elsmere, Greenbank, Marshallton, Pike Creek, the Lancaster Pike/Newport Gap Pike areas, and parts of Newport and Pike Creek. He assumed office on January 12, 2021, succeeding Anthony Delcollo. Raised in Caldwell, New Jersey, he lives in the Westgate Farms neighborhood with his wife Megan and daughters Sophia and Katherine. Notable achievements include chairing the Senate Banking, Business, Insurance & Technology Committee, where he passed Senate Bill 267 to make prescription drugs more affordable, and co-sponsoring House Bill 54 to establish the Office of Suicide Prevention in 2025.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from James Caldwell High School; earned bachelor's degrees in economics and political science from Muhlenberg College; master's degree in political science from the University of Delaware.
- Professional Background: Served as legislative assistant and research analyst for the Delaware Senate in the 1990s; vice president of the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce; media relations professional for major Delaware employers; founder of The Mantzavinos Group communications consulting firm; currently a professor.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Delaware Senate in 2020; chairs the Banking, Business, Insurance & Technology Committee; vice-chair of Veterans Affairs; serves on Environment, Energy & Transportation, Rules & Ethics, Capital Improvement , and Special Property Reassessment committees.
