Biography

Spencer Gosch is an American politician and member of the Republican Party. Born on January 22, 1984, he works professionally as a small business owner and on his family farm. He serves as a member of the South Dakota House of Representatives representing District 23. He assumed his current office on January 14, 2025, with a term ending on January 12, 2027.

Gosch attended the University of South Dakota.

Political Experience

Gosch has served multiple terms in the South Dakota House of Representatives. During his tenure, he held significant leadership positions, serving as Speaker pro tempore during the 94th and 95th Legislative Sessions and as Speaker of the House during the 96th and 97th Legislative Sessions.

His committee assignments have varied across legislative sessions. In 2017, he served on the Agriculture and Natural Resources and Commerce and Energy committees. During the 2019-2020 session, he served on the House State Affairs Committee, the Joint Legislative Procedure Committee, and held vice-chair positions on the House Legislative Procedure and House Commerce and Energy committees. In the 2021-2022 session, he chaired the Joint Legislative Procedure Committee and the House Legislative Procedure Committee while serving on the House State Affairs Committee. For the 2025-2026 session, he is assigned to the House State Affairs Committee and serves as Vice Chair of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

Gosch was first elected to the House in 2016 and was re-elected in 2018 and 2020. In 2022, he sought election to the South Dakota Senate but lost the Republican primary to incumbent Bryan Breitling. He returned to run for his former House seat in 2024, defeating incumbent James D. Wangness in the Republican primary and winning the general election alongside Scott Moore.
