Biography
Simon Joseph Cataldo is a Democratic representative for the 14th Middlesex District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, serving the town of Carlisle and parts of Acton, Chelmsford, and Concord. A lifelong resident of Concord, raised in West Concord as the son of a social worker and an economist, he is a husband and father of four sons. Cataldo entered politics in 2021, winning his first election with 72.8% of the vote, and is now in his second term. Notable achievements include founding Harlem Lacrosse, a nonprofit serving over 1,300 at-risk students and securing $60 million in scholarships; prosecuting high-profile public corruption cases as a federal attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice's Public Integrity Section; and filing 24 bills in his first term on early childhood education, renewable energy, workforce development, tax relief, public safety, and substance use recovery. He currently serves as Co-chair of the Special Commission on Combating Antisemitism, House Vice-chair of the Joint Committee on the Environment and Natural Resources, and members of the Joint Committees on Education, Judiciary, and Financial Services.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School; BS in Environmental Science from Colorado College; JD from University of Virginia School of Law.
- Early Career: Taught special education math at Harlem’s Frederick Douglass Academy via Teach for America, where he started the school's first lacrosse team; founded and led Harlem Lacrosse as Board President, managing an $8 million budget.
- Legal and Public Service: Clerked for a federal judge; joined U.S. Department of Justice Honors Program as a trial attorney, prosecuting corruption cases involving judges, sheriffs, politicians, and law enforcement for violations of extortion, fraud, campaign finance, and bribery laws.
- Political Experience: Elected in 2021 special election; re-elected and serving second term as of 2024-2026 session; champions economic opportunity, education, environmental conservation, and public safety through collaborative legislation.
