Biography
Representative Sherry Roberts
Sherry Roberts is a Republican member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives representing District 29, which encompasses West Greenwich and Coventry. Born July 29, 1968, she is a native Rhode Islander who has dedicated her career to public service and community development.
Roberts moved to West Greenwich nearly 13 years ago, where she raised her children as a single mother. Before entering electoral politics, she worked for 16 years with the State of Rhode Island's Department of Children, Youth and Families, bringing substantial experience in social services to her legislative work.
Education
Roberts attended the Community College of Rhode Island and the University of Rhode Island, establishing an educational foundation that has informed her policy work in the state legislature.
Political Experience
Roberts was first elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives in November 2014 and has served continuously since 2015. She currently holds the position of Senior Deputy Minority Leader of the Republican caucus, demonstrating significant influence within her party.
Throughout her tenure, Roberts has served on multiple legislative committees, including the House Education Committee, House Finance Committee, Innovation/Internet and Technology Committee, and Judiciary Committee. She previously served on committees addressing environment, natural resources, small business, and corporations.
Among her notable achievements, Roberts led the initiative to create the "School to Jobs" program, which partnered Coventry High School with Electric Boat to provide vocational training opportunities. This program has become a model for statewide implementation, reflecting her commitment to workforce development and educational innovation.
