Biography
Senator Shelley Frommeyer
Shelley Funke Frommeyer is a Republican state senator representing Kentucky Senate District 24. She was born on June 21, 1969, and grew up as the sixth child of twelve on a family farm in Demossville, Kentucky, across the Licking River. She has resided in Alexandria, Kentucky for the past 16 years.
Frommeyer is a Certified Financial Planner and business owner. She is a practicing Catholic and actively involved in her faith community, serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and the Word at St. Mary Catholic Church and School, where she also serves on the Finance Committee and coaches volleyball. She is a USO volunteer.
She is married to Rich Frommeyer and has seven children—daughters Grace and Mekenzie, and sons Josh, Jordan, Jacob Elbert, and Jacob—along with their spouses and five grandchildren.
Education and Professional Background
Frommeyer holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Marketing. Her professional background spans over 22 years of involvement with the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. She has also been active in the Covington Business Council and served as a Board of Governors member to the Metropolitan Business and Philanthropic Club. She received the Women's Initiative Spirit of Achievement Award and the Junior Achievement Slugger Award.
Political Experience
Frommeyer has served in the Kentucky State Senate since 2023. Her key legislative achievements include:
- SB 27: Legislation allowing part-time adjunct fire instructors to train firefighters without negatively affecting their pension
- SB 209: Legislation permitting retired Kentucky State Police troopers returning to duty to receive normal benefits
Her priority policy issues include economic development, tourism, and healthcare initiatives, particularly advocating for medical marijuana legislation as a holistic health tool.
