Biography

Shawnna Bolick

Shawnna Bolick is a Republican member of the Arizona Senate representing the 2nd district since July 2023. She was appointed to fill a vacancy by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors and was sworn in on July 21, 2023.

Prior to her Senate service, Bolick represented District 20 in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023. She resides in Phoenix with her family and three greyhounds.

Education and Early Career

Bolick completed graduate coursework and initially worked in Texas, where she served on the Advisory Council on the Digital Economy under then-Lieutenant Governor Rick Perry during the legislature's interim period. She moved to Arizona in 2001.

Throughout her career, Bolick has maintained involvement in education and community advocacy. She published Playtime in Phoenix: The Ultimate Guide to Learning & Having Fun with Kids! in May 2004 and worked as a consultant for the Arizona Charter School Association, the Goldwater Institute, the Alliance for School Choice, and the Arizona School Choice Trust. She has served on various school boards and advisory committees, including the Arizona State Board of Education's Academic Standards Development Committee.

Political Experience and Notable Positions

Bolick has held several appointed positions including service on Arizona's Early Childhood Education and Health Board and the Arizona Juvenile Justice Commission .

In the current legislative session, she serves as Chair of the Regulatory Affairs & Government Efficiency Committee and sits on the Judiciary & Elections and Finance committees.

A notable legislative moment came in May 2024, when Bolick became the first Republican to vote alongside Senator T.J. Shope to repeal Arizona's 1864 territorial abortion law, joining all Democrats in a 16–14 Senate vote to overturn the ban.
