Biography

Shaundelle Brooks is a Democratic Tennessee State Representative for District 60 , first elected in 2024 to the 114th General Assembly after defeating Republican Chad Bobo with 54% of the vote. A gun reform activist and mother of Akilah DaSilva, killed at age 23 in the 2018 Nashville Waffle House shooting, she founded the Akilah DaSilva Foundation and advocates against gun violence, often alongside Covenant school shooting families. Her platform emphasizes youth development, teacher pay increases, first-time homebuyer assistance, rural healthcare, abortion access, affordable childcare, men's mental health, and LGBTQ rights. Notable endorsements include Planned Parenthood, Davidson County DA Glenn Funk, and the Tennessee Three.

Education and Political Experience

Born and raised in Brooklyn to police officer parents, Brooks worked as a parole officer in Nashville, gaining insight into criminal justice and root causes of crime. This is her first elected office, succeeding Democratic Rep. Darren Jernigan; prior experience includes Capitol advocacy for gun reform.
