Shaun Raphael Mena

Shaun Raphael Mena is a lifelong resident of New Orleans, specifically the Mid-City area within District 23. He is a local attorney and small business owner who founded The Mena Law Firm in 2014. Mena is the son of immigrant parents from Honduras and grew up in the inner city of New Orleans during the 1990s. He is married to Maisha and has a young son named Chatoyer.
Education
Mena attended Warren Easton Fundamental High School, graduating in 2000. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Louisiana State University in 2004 and received his Juris Doctor from Southern University Law Center.
Political Experience
Before his election to the Louisiana House of Representatives, Mena gained governmental experience working in the Executive Branch of Louisiana State Government as a Policy Analyst for former Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco. He also worked for state agencies focused on housing and higher education.
He was elected to the District 23 seat on November 18, 2023, winning with 57.9% of the vote against opponent Tammy Savoie, who received 42.1%. Since taking office, Mena serves on several legislative committees including Commerce, Insurance, Labor and Industrial Relations, and the House Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Democratic Caucus, the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus, and the Orleans Delegation. He is eligible to serve through the 2032 term.
