Sharon Quirk-Silva

Sharon Quirk-Silva is a Democrat serving in the California State Assembly representing District 67, which encompasses portions of northern Orange County and parts of Los Angeles County, including La Palma, Cypress, Fullerton, Buena Park, Anaheim, Artesia, Cerritos, and Hawaiian Gardens.

Born September 17, 1962, Quirk-Silva is a former elementary school teacher with 30 years of teaching experience and previously served as a member of the Fullerton city council and as Mayor of Fullerton. She was first elected to the Assembly in 2012 in an upset victory, narrowly defeating incumbent Republican Chris Norby. After losing her seat in 2014, she recaptured it in 2016 in a rematch against Young Kim and has held it continuously since then. She is currently serving her sixth term in the Assembly.

Education

Quirk-Silva holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from UCLA.

Political Experience

Quirk-Silva is currently a member of several select committees, including those focused on California's Mental Health Crisis, Child Care Costs, Community Reinvestment, Housing Construction Innovation, Housing Finance and Affordability, and the Master Plan for Higher Education in California. She also serves as Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Orange County Chronic Homelessness.

Among her notable legislative achievements, Quirk-Silva authored AB 368, which established the Southern California Veteran's Cemetery and was signed into law. She has championed priorities including affordable housing, homelessness reduction, quality education, mental health services, and support for California's businesses. Her accomplishments include securing funding for community institutions such as $2.5 million for the Fullerton Boys and Girls Club and $14 million in building modernizations for Fullerton Community College. She also championed a bill mandating that California public elementary schools teach cursive writing.
