Biography
Shannon Grove is a Republican State Senator representing California's 12th Senate District, which includes Fresno, Tulare, and Kern counties in the southern Central Valley. Born Shannon Lee Cain on March 18, 1965, in Kern County, she is a businesswoman, U.S. Army veteran, and the first woman veteran elected to the California Legislature. She served as Minority Leader of the California State Senate from 2019 to 2021, leading the Republican caucus. Grove is CEO of Continental Labor and Staffing Resources, a staffing company she co-founded, and advocates for law enforcement, small businesses, agriculture, energy production, school safety, and families. She resides in Bakersfield with her husband Rick; they have five children and eleven grandchildren.
Education and Political Experience
- Military Service: Served in the U.S. Army , stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, where she witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
- Business: Founded and leads Continental Labor and Staffing Resources since 1993.
- *State Assembly *: Elected in 2010 during the Tea Party wave; re-elected twice; served on Agriculture, Insurance, Budget, Elections and Redistricting committees; vice chair of Elections and Redistricting.
- State Senate: Elected to District 16 , then District 12 ; elected Senate Republican Leader in 2019.
- Notable Positions and Achievements: Strong supporter of former President Trump; opposes abortion and mandatory school vaccinations; received awards like the 2013 James S. Gils Strap Petroleum Industry Award and 2012 Champion of the California Merit Shop.
