Biography
Shanique Speight is a Democratic Assembly Member representing District 29 in the New Jersey General Assembly, serving since 2018. Born on November 14, 1978, in Newark, New Jersey, she works as a sheriff's officer with the Essex County Sheriff's Office since 2013 and is currently the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. She holds positions as Chair of the Aging and Human Services Committee, Vice Chair of the Health Infrastructure Committee, and member of the Regulated Professions Committee. Notable achievements include sponsoring laws for implicit bias training in maternal healthcare, expanding opportunities for people with disabilities, improving crime victim support, and advancing menstrual health equity through a statewide summit and legislative package providing products and awareness campaigns.
