Biography
Shane Abbott is a Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing District 5 in Northwest Florida. A lifelong resident of the region, raised in DeFuniak Springs, he is a pharmacist, small business owner, and family man married to Holley Abbott with children Dre Matthews and Tanner Abbott. Elected in 2022 after winning the Republican primary against Vance Coley and Clint Pate, he faced no Democratic opponent and succeeded Brad Drake; he was re-elected in 2024.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended Pensacola Junior College and earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Florida.
- Professional Background: Co-owns The Prescription Place and a Firestone Tire Service Center in DeFuniak Springs.
- Political Experience: Serves as Vice Chair of the Economic Infrastructure Subcommittee, and member of the Health & Human Services Committee and Select Committee on Property Taxes. Notable achievements include passing reforms to lower prescription drug costs by targeting pharmacy middlemen, securing rural infrastructure funding, filing House Joint Resolution 207 for property tax relief in 2026, and advocating for conservative priorities like right-to-life and Second Amendment rights. Appointed by Governor DeSantis to a local college board.
