Biography
Shae A. Sortwell is a Republican politician representing Wisconsin's 2nd Assembly District, which includes areas like Two Rivers and Gibson in northeastern Wisconsin. Born on August 3, 1985, in Saratoga Springs, New York, while his father served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear submariner, he moved to Gibson, Wisconsin, at age 15. A truck driver by trade, he resides in Gibson with his wife, Krista , and their six children. Notable positions include membership on the Assembly Committee on Judiciary, Disabled American Veterans, and American Legion. He has been vocal on election integrity, raising fraud concerns after the 2020 presidential election.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a BA in Public Administration and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay; certified from the United States Army CBRN School.
- Military Service: Served nine years in the U.S. Army Reserve Chemical Corps, reaching the rank of Sergeant before honorable discharge in early 2018.
- Early Political Roles: While at UW-Green Bay, served in Student Government and founded a pro-life student organization. Worked as a legislative aide to former Rep. Chad Weininger ; Alderman on Green Bay City Council; Supervisor on Gibson Town Board .
- State Assembly: Elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly's 2nd District in 2018, assuming office January 7, 2019; previously ran as an independent in the 90th District in 2014.
