Biography
Segun Adeyina
Segun Adeyina is a Democratic Party member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 110, which includes portions of Gwinnett County. He was elected in November 2022 and assumed office on January 9, 2023.
Adeyina was born on December 28 and is originally from Detroit, Michigan. In 2014, he relocated to Georgia with his family, settling in Grayson in Gwinnett County. He is married to Kofo Adeyina, a certified public accountant, and has three children: Dami, Lade, and Layo.
Education and Professional Background
With more than 25 years of experience in information technology program and project management, Adeyina has worked for Fortune 500 companies across multiple industries, including General Motors, Ascension Health System, and Hewlett Packard/Cap Gemini. He brings an IT and engineering background to his legislative work, focusing on innovative ideas to create job opportunities in science and technology industries.
Political Experience and Notable Achievements
Before his election to the state legislature, Adeyina served as a representative for the Gwinnett County Tree Advisory Committee and was a 2020 Democratic candidate for District 1 of the Gwinnett County School Board. He currently serves as the executive director of the Nigerian American Public Advisory Committee U.S.A., an organization dedicated to promoting voter education and registration in immigrant communities. He is an active executive member of the Gwinnett County Democratic Party and played a key role in voter engagement during the 2021 U.S. presidential election and U.S. Senate elections in Georgia through his involvement with One Voice Africa.
Adeyina holds memberships in the Gwinnett NAACP, Global African Business Association, and has served on the boards of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Americas and African World Expo. His mentorship work with Big Brothers Big Sisters spans over 20 years, earning him recognition from 100 Black Men for seven years of service as a mentor. His awards and honors include the United States Presidents Lifetime Achievement Award , the Sirius Rising Start Award from the Georgia Plastic Foundation, the 2019 Mothers on a Mission–12th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Drum Major Award, and the 2019 Global Black History Honors Honoree recognition for his community leadership.
