Biography
Sean M. Ryan is a Democrat who served as New York State Senator for the 61st District from 2021 to 2025, representing parts of Buffalo, Tonawanda, Amherst, Grand Island, and surrounding areas. Born March 4, 1965, in Buffalo, New York, he is an attorney specializing in anti-discrimination, labor, and housing rights. Notable achievements include championing legislation to ban non-compete clauses , securing record awards for housing discrimination victims, and leading community redevelopment via the Buffalo Neighborhood Stabilization Company. He was elected Mayor of Buffalo in November 2025 with 72% of the vote, the largest margin in over three decades in a contested race. Married to Catherine Creighton with two daughters, Kate and Bridget.
