Biography
Sean McCann is a Democratic state senator representing Michigan's 19th District, which includes parts of Kalamazoo and Van Buren Counties. Born on September 21, 1971, he resides in Kalamazoo with his wife Priscilla and their two children, Alexander and Lauren. A small business owner, McCann has focused on environmental protection, energy jobs, water safeguards, election reform, workers' rights, and health access during his second term in the Michigan Senate, sworn in on January 11, 2023, after election on November 8, 2022. Notable achievements include voting to expand health insurance to over 600,000 Michiganians, raising the minimum wage, proposing anti-gerrymandering legislation, and helping establish the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission. He previously cracked down on slumlords, led Red Cross disaster relief, and attracted jobs to Michigan.

- Early Career: Moved to Kalamazoo around 1991; served as executive director of the Vine Neighborhood Association for over six years and director of financial development for the Greater Kalamazoo Area American Red Cross for nearly eight years.
