Biography
Scott Kazuo Saiki, born July 17, 1964, in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a Democratic politician and attorney who grew up in Kailua. He represented Hawaii House District 26 and District 25 , serving as Majority Leader and Speaker of the Hawaii House of Representatives . Notable achievements include election as President-Elect of the National Conference of State Legislatures in 2019 and co-chairing the Governor’s Executive and Legislative Condo and Property Insurance Task Force. Since July 16, 2025, he has served as Hawaii's 34th Insurance Commissioner, overseeing the Insurance Division.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended Hawaii Baptist Academy; earned a BA in Political Science from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and a Juris Doctor from the William S. Richardson School of Law .
- Political Experience: Elected to the Hawaii House in 1994 ; Majority Leader ; Speaker ; joined Hawaiʻi Insurance Division in December 2024 as Acting Chief Deputy ; appointed Insurance Commissioner .
- Legal Career: Practiced disability law and personal injury litigation; former staff attorney at Legal Aid Society of Hawaii; worked at firms including Galiher, DeRobertis and Ono, and Bickerton, Saunders, and Dang.
