Biography
Scott Odenbach
Scott Odenbach is a Republican member of the South Dakota House of Representatives representing District 31, which comprises all of Lawrence County. A fifth-generation South Dakotan, he grew up in Eureka and has resided in Lawrence County since 2006. He is married to Laura and has three children: Ashley, James, and Jack.
Beyond his legislative role, Odenbach is an attorney who owns and operates the Odenbach Law Office in Spearfish, specializing in business, estate, and real property law. He also serves as the managing broker of Liberty Tree Properties, a real estate firm in Spearfish. He is a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Spearfish.
Education
Odenbach earned a Bachelor of Science degree from South Dakota State University in 1995 and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 2001.
Political Experience
Odenbach was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives in 2020 and serves on the Education and Judiciary Committees. He was chairman of the 2021 teacher compensation review board and participated in the special summer study committee on workforce housing.
Prior to his election to the state legislature, Odenbach served on the Spearfish School Board from 2017 to 2020. He also serves on the board of directors for the Spearfish Community Foundation and is a member of the Black Hills State University President's Advisory Council.
Before entering state politics, Odenbach worked in the public sector as Assistant General Counsel for the Florida Department of Education from 2003 to 2006, before establishing his law practice in South Dakota.
