Biography
Senator Scott Madon
Scott Madon was born on March 8, 1962, and is an American politician representing Kentucky's 29th Senate District as a Republican. His district encompasses Bell, Floyd, Harlan, Knott, and Letcher counties. Madon was elected to the state senate in 2024 through a write-in vote following the death of incumbent senator Johnnie L. Turner. He received endorsements from U.S. Representative Hal Rogers and the Kentucky Senate Republican Caucus, winning with 6,825 votes against ten other candidates. He assumed office on January 1, 2025.
Education and Background
Madon is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and works in the insurance industry with Assured Partners. He is affiliated with the Baptist faith and currently resides in Pineville, Kentucky.
Political Experience
Madon began his political career in 1987 when he was elected mayor of Pineville at age 24, becoming the youngest mayor in Kentucky at the time. He served two terms as mayor, with his second election occurring in 2014 when he defeated incumbent Sherwin Rader. During his tenure as mayor, he served on the executive committee of the Kentucky League of Cities and chaired the Cumberland Valley Area Development District. He held the position of Kentucky League of Cities Vice President and received the Ky Main Street/Heritage Council Spirit of Main Street and Grass Roots Preservation Award. He resigned from the mayoral office on December 30, 2024, to assume his state senate seat.
In the Kentucky Senate, Madon serves on multiple committees including Appropriations & Revenue, Economic Development, Tourism & Labor, Natural Resources & Energy, and State & Local Government. He also co-chairs the Budget Review Subcommittee on General Government, Finance, and Public Protection.
