Biography
R. Scott Campbell is a Democratic representative for the Caledonia-Essex district in the Vermont House of Representatives, serving since January 2019. Born in Maryland, he moved to Vermont in 1987, where he married Mary Ready, a family practice physician specializing in hospice; they have three adult children and have resided in St. Johnsbury since 2005. His professional background is in construction, building design, energy modeling, and affordable housing initiatives, including founding director of Capstone Community Action’s 3E Thermal for energy consulting, directing CVOEO’s Weatherization Program, and operating a design-build contracting firm.
Notable achievements include past board president of Catamount Arts in St. Johnsbury, past board member of Rural Edge housing agency, alternate representative to NEK Community Broadband, and service on various town committees. Since 2023, he has volunteered developing the Caledonia Food Co-op, raising over $1 million locally to purchase and fund a storefront.
