Biography
Scot Peter Zenko Matayoshi is a Democratic member of the Hawaii House of Representatives, representing District 49 on Oʻahu, which covers parts of Kāneʻohe and Kailua. He assumed office on November 6, 2018, succeeding Ken Ito, and has been reelected since, including in 2024.
Notable achievements and positions include serving as Chair of the House Consumer Protection and Commerce Committee, Majority Whip , and previously as Chair of Labor & Government Operations. He also serves on committees for Culture, Arts & International Affairs, Education, Higher Education & Technology, and others. Priorities encompass education , agriculture, housing affordability, and addressing Hawaii's high cost of living. Community roles include board president of Malama Honua Public Charter School Foundation, member of the Hawaii United Okinawa Association Legal Committee, and Koʻolaupoko Hawaiian Civic Club.
Prior to politics, he was a public school science teacher at Nānākuli High and Intermediate School and an attorney associate at firms like McCorriston Miller Mukai Mackinnon and Schlack Ito.

- Education: Graduated from Punahou School; BA in Government from Claremont McKenna College , where he interned with U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Akaka; MEd and JD from the William S. Richardson School of Law at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa .
- Political Experience: Elected to Hawaii House in 2018; leadership roles as noted above; initiated 84 bills in a recent session .
