Biography
Savannah Maddox
Savannah Lee Maddox was born on November 2, 1987, and is an American politician from Dry Ridge, Kentucky. She is a Republican who represents District 61 in the Kentucky House of Representatives, which encompasses all of Grant and Gallatin counties and parts of both Boone and Kenton counties. Maddox is described as one of the General Assembly's furthest-right members and has developed a reputation as a firebrand in Kentucky politics, known for her take-no-prisoners style of leadership and outspoken advocacy for limited government and unfettered gun rights.
Education
Maddox holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and International Relations from Northern Kentucky University . She also serves on the NKU-Grant County Advisory Board and is involved with the Grant County Chamber of Commerce and Grant County Historical Society.
Political Experience
Maddox was first elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2018, defeating Grant County Judge-Executive Darrell Link by 5,000 votes in the general election. She has since been elected to three consecutive terms and currently serves on multiple House committees, including the Small Business and Information Technology Committee, State Government Committee, Judiciary Committee, and Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Protection Committee.
Her most notable achievement was her instrumental work in passing Senate Bill 150 in 2019, which legalized constitutional concealed carry for legal gun owners in Kentucky. For her efforts on this legislation, Maddox was awarded the .50 Caliber Freedom Award from the National Association for Gun Rights. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she vocally opposed Governor Andy Beshear's emergency orders, calling them acts of "tyranny," and proposed measures to restrict the governor's emergency powers.
In 2022, Maddox announced her candidacy for the Kentucky gubernatorial election, running on a platform of limiting government overreach and challenging what she viewed as excessive executive authority. She withdrew from the gubernatorial race in December 2022 but has filed to run for reelection to her House seat.
