Biography
Sarah Fowler Arthur
Sarah Fowler Arthur is an Ohio State Representative from the 99th district, which encompasses portions of Ashtabula and Geauga Counties. She is a member of the Republican Party.
A lifelong entrepreneur, Fowler Arthur began her first business at age 11 with "Sarah's Eggs," raising and selling chickens and eggs from her family farm. She later taught piano for five years. In 2020, she married Isaac Arthur, a physicist and U.S. Army veteran who produces the science education program "Science & Futurism with Isaac Arthur." Together, they operate SFIA Enterprises, a rental business, and Badger Run Berries, which focuses on blueberries, honeybees, and chickens. Sarah and Isaac homeschool their three children—Kristofer, Isabella, and Geometry—whom they formally adopted in 2023.
Education
Sarah Fowler Arthur was homeschooled and is notably the first homeschool graduate in the nation to be elected to a State Board of Education. She holds a Teaching English as a Second Language Ministry Certification, earned in 2006.
Political Experience
Fowler Arthur served on the Ohio State Board of Education from 2013 to 2020, initially elected in November 2012 at age 23. During her tenure on the State Board, she served as vice-chairman of three committees and chaired the Teaching, Leading, and Learning Committee from 2019–2020. She was also appointed in 2015 to the National Association of State Boards of Education Government Affairs workgroup, which focused on federal education law and policy.
In 2020, she was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives, flipping the district from Democratic to Republican control with 58.5% of the vote. She is currently serving her second term and chairs the Education Committee. As a state representative, she serves on four legislative committees: Agriculture and Conservation, Armed Services and Veterans Affairs, Primary and Secondary Education, and State and Local Government.
Throughout her career, Fowler Arthur has consistently advocated for parental direction of children's education and local control of Ohio's public schools.
