Biography
Sara Love
Sara Love was born on April 6, 1967, in Evanston, Illinois. She is a Democratic member of the Maryland State Senate representing District 16 in Montgomery County.
Love was appointed to the Maryland State Senate by Governor Moore in June 2024. Prior to her Senate service, she had a career focused on civil rights and reproductive rights advocacy. She worked as an attorney on mortgage discrimination cases and cases defending women's health clinics. Early in her legal career, she worked on a mortgage discrimination case with another young lawyer—Barack Obama. She also served as general counsel to nine clinics across the country and worked with federal, state, and local law enforcement on implementing the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act .
Education
Love graduated from Princeton University with a degree in history and earned her Juris Doctor from Northwestern University School of Law in 1993. She clerked for Judge Timothy K. Lewis of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit from 1993 to 1994.
Political Experience

Love was first elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in November 2018 and served from January 2019 until her resignation in June 2024. During her tenure, she:
- Served on the Environment and Transportation Committee
- Chaired the Motor Vehicles and Transportation Subcommittee
- Served on the Environment Subcommittee
- Chaired the Land Use, Transportation, and Public Safety Committee for the Montgomery County House Delegation

As a state senator, Love serves on the Judicial Proceedings Committee and holds several notable positions:

Love also serves on the McLean School Board of Trustees and is a member of the Illinois Bar, District of Columbia Bar, and U.S. Supreme Court Bar.
