Biography
Senator Sandra O'Brien is a Republican representing Ohio's 32nd Senate District, which includes Ashtabula and Trumbull counties and most of Geauga County. Elected in 2020 after defeating Democratic incumbent Sean O'Brien with 51% of the vote, she won re-election in 2024 with 62% in the general election. She serves her second term as Chair of the Senate Local Government Committee, Vice Chair of the Education Committee, and holds positions on committees including Finance, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Transportation, Addiction and Community Revitalization, Government Oversight and Reform, and Ways and Means. Notable achievements include sponsoring Senate Bill 11 for universal EdChoice scholarships to expand educational choice, co-sponsoring the 2019 "Heartbeat Bill" banning most abortions after six weeks, advocating for income tax reductions and property tax reforms, and securing funding for her district. Previously, she served three terms as Ashtabula County Auditor . Married to Pat with four children and five grandchildren, she resides on a small farm in Ashtabula County and is Catholic.
