Biography
Samantha "Sam" Montaño is a Democratic member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, representing the 15th Suffolk district since January 4, 2023. This district covers parts of the Boston neighborhoods of Roxbury, Mission Hill, and Jamaica Plain. A community organizer from Los Angeles, California, and member of the LGBTQ+ community , Montaño won the 2022 Democratic primary with 57.5% of the vote and the general election with 98.8% as the sole candidate, succeeding Nika Elugardo. Prior to election, they spent over a decade working in the district on affordable housing, equity, and climate resistance, including roles at City Year, a women’s shelter, JPNDC, youth work at Mildred Hailey, and the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Massachusetts House in 2023 as a Democrat; deeply involved in local legislative advocacy and community organizing in Jamaica Plain, Mission Hill, and Roxbury. Serves from Room 446 at the State House in Boston.
