Sam McKenzie is a Democratic member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, representing District 15 since January 12, 2021. Born on October 26, 1965, and raised in District 15, he is a proud father of three children with family ties including brothers Raleigh and Reggie McKenzie, and nephew Kahlil McKenzie. Before politics, he owned a small business, served as a professional youth sports official, spent 8 years as a Knox County Commissioner, and held leadership roles in the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Notable achievements include serving as Chair of the TN Black Caucus of Legislators and Democratic Whip.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Austin-East High School; earned a B.S. in Physics from Fisk University and an M.S. in Physics from the University of Memphis.
- Professional Experience: Worked over 30 years as a scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, managing maintenance on the Spallation Neutron Source, before retiring.
- Political Experience: Elected in 2020, succeeding Democrat Rick Staples; active in the House Democratic Caucus.
