Biography
Sally Turner is a Republican member of the Illinois Senate representing the 44th District in Central Illinois, which includes all or parts of DeWitt, Livingston, Logan, Macon, Mason, McLean, Piatt, Sangamon, Tazewell, and Woodford counties. Appointed on January 25, 2021, to succeed Minority Leader Bill Brady, she has served as Caucus Whip for the Senate Republican Caucus and Minority Spokesperson for the Senate State Government Committee . Notable achievements include election as president of the Illinois Association of County Clerks and Recorders in 2015 and owning Sally J. Turner Government Consulting, aiding local governments with budgets and property taxes.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in legal studies from the University of Illinois; Master's degree in Organizational Leadership from Lincoln Christian University, where she taught Citizens and Government classes for 13 years.
- Early Career: Juvenile probation officer; paralegal for six years in the Logan County State’s Attorney’s Office.
- Political Experience: Elected Logan County Clerk and Recorder in 1994, re-elected five times until 2018; active in Illinois County Officials Association and Illinois Association of County Clerks and Recorders. Appointed Illinois State Senator in 2021; current committees include Assignments, Agriculture, Appropriations-Education, Early Childhood Education, Higher Education, Revenue, State Government , Child Welfare, Local Government, and Joint Committee on Administrative Rules. A lifelong Illinois resident, she lives in Logan County with her husband John and has one son and one daughter.
