Senator Sally Harrell ** represents **Georgia Senate District 40, which includes portions of DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett counties in the northern Atlanta suburbs. Elected in 2018 and sworn in on January 14, 2019, she is a champion of women’s and children’s issues, mental health, disability services, gun safety, Medicaid expansion, immigrant rights, reproductive healthcare, public transit, and affordable higher education. Notable achievements include passing a law protecting mothers who breastfeed in public, advocating for mandatory recess for children, reducing higher education costs, expanding Medicaid waivers for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities , and mandating provider rate study reviews every four years. She serves as Senate co-Chair of the Georgia Women’s Legislative Caucus and Vice Chair of the DeKalb Delegation and Working Families Caucus.
