Biography
Saira Amir Draper is a Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 90 . She serves as Minority Caucus Chief Deputy Whip and is a civil rights attorney specializing in voting rights. Born in the United Kingdom to parents of Pakistani and Spanish origin, she moved to the United States as a child, attended North Springs High School in Sandy Springs, Georgia, and lives in Atlanta with her husband Addison and three children.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Georgia Tech's School of Public Policy in 2006 ; J.D. from Georgetown Law.
- Early Career: Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras; associate attorney at Jones Day ; civil rights litigator at Southern Poverty Law Center .
- Political Experience: Voter Protection Director for Democratic Party of Georgia , leading efforts for Biden 2020 campaign and Warnock/Ossoff 2021 runoffs ; exposed and reinstated Georgia’s automatic voter registration in 2022; elected to House District 90 in 2022, re-elected in 2024; committees include Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Judiciary Juvenile, Urban Affairs; endorsed Kamala Harris 2024 campaign; co-founded entities supporting voting rights in battleground states; dubbed AJC “rising star” in 2023.
