Biography
Ryan Anthony Guillen is a Republican Texas State Representative for House District 31, representing counties including Starr, Wilson, Karnes, Duval, Brooks, Jim Hogg, Kenedy, La Salle, Live Oak, McMullen, and Zapata. A sixth-generation South Texan from a family of public school teachers, war veterans, and cattle ranchers, he grew up working at the family feed store and as a ranch hand; he switched from the Democratic Party to Republican in 2021, bolstering the GOP majority in the Texas House. Married to Dalinda with two daughters, Guillen is known as the "Bill Machine" for his legislative productivity, advocacy for jobs, tax cuts, public safety, energy leadership, infrastructure, property rights, veterans, and rural life, and for initiatives like his Dairy Queen Listening Tour and student programs.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Texas A&M University ; worked as a high school agriculture teacher, small businessman, rancher, and educator.
- Political Experience: Elected at age 24 in 2002 as one of the youngest Texas legislators ever, serving continuously since January 2003 .
