Ruwa Romman is a Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 97 in Gwinnett County, which includes areas such as Duluth, Norcross, Peachtree Corners, and Berkeley Lake. Born on June 14, 1993, in Amman, Jordan, she is the granddaughter of Palestinian refugees and immigrated to metro Atlanta at age 7 with her family, who established a car dealership in Gwinnett County. She made history as the first Palestinian and Muslim woman elected to the Georgia General Assembly in 2022, flipping a Republican seat with 57.7% of the vote, and won re-election in 2024. Notable achievements include co-founding the Georgia Volunteer Hub in 2020, which trained thousands of volunteers for the Georgia Senate runoff elections, and her advocacy for economic opportunity, public education funding, healthcare access , worker protections, and voting rights. In 2025, she briefly ran for Governor in the 2026 election but withdrew in February 2026 to pursue a campaign for the Georgia State Senate in the 7th district.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: Earned a B.A. in politics from Oglethorpe University and an M.A. in public policy from Georgetown University's McCourt School in 2019, where she served as McCourt Student Association president and co-chair of the student advisory board at the Georgetown Institute of Politics and Public Service.
• Professional Experience: Worked as a senior consultant at Deloitte and as a public policy consultant; previously served as communications director for CAIR Georgia, field organizer for the Georgia Muslim Voter Project and Asian American Advocacy Fund.
• Political Experience: Involved in civic engagement since 2014, volunteering for Democratic campaigns like Michelle Nunn and Jason Carter; announced candidacy for House District 97 in January 2022, won the Democratic primary in May 2022 against JT Wu, and general election in November 2022; currently serves in the Georgia House, focusing on community empowerment and marginalized groups.
