Biography

Ruwa Romman is a Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 97 in Gwinnett County, which includes areas such as Duluth, Norcross, Peachtree Corners, and Berkeley Lake. Born on June 14, 1993, in Amman, Jordan, she is the granddaughter of Palestinian refugees and immigrated to metro Atlanta at age 7 with her family, who established a car dealership in Gwinnett County. She made history as the first Palestinian and Muslim woman elected to the Georgia General Assembly in 2022, flipping a Republican seat with 57.7% of the vote, and won re-election in 2024. Notable achievements include co-founding the Georgia Volunteer Hub in 2020, which trained thousands of volunteers for the Georgia Senate runoff elections, and her advocacy for economic opportunity, public education funding, healthcare access , worker protections, and voting rights. In 2025, she briefly ran for Governor in the 2026 election but withdrew in February 2026 to pursue a campaign for the Georgia State Senate in the 7th district.
