Biography
Senator Ruth Johnson is a Republican representing Michigan's 24th Senate District, which includes portions of Oakland, Macomb, Genesee, and Lapeer counties. Born on January 8, 1955, in Pontiac, she has served as a state senator since 2019, first elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022 following redistricting. Notable achievements include serving as Michigan's Secretary of State from 2011 to 2018, where she streamlined operations, improved customer service, and safeguarded elections; being the first woman elected Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds in 2004; and prior roles on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners and three terms in the Michigan House . She currently serves as minority vice chair of the Elections and Ethics Committee and on the Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety; and Education committees. Johnson is a small business owner, Methodist, and has one child, Emily.
