Biography
Russet W. Perry is a Democratic State Senator representing Virginia's 31st District, which includes parts of Loudoun and Fauquier Counties. Born on November 15, 1983, she is a practicing attorney with a strong background in public service, particularly in prosecuting serious crimes and advocating for justice, women, and minorities. Elected in 2023, she entered the Virginia Senate in 2024 after winning a closely watched race. Notable achievements include her roles as Chair of the Rural Affairs Subcommittee, Vice-Chair of the bipartisan Aviation Caucus, and service on multiple committees and boards such as Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources; Courts of Justice; Privileges & Elections; Rehabilitation and Social Services; Behavioral Health Commission; and Virginia Criminal Sentencing Commission.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned two B.A.s from George Washington University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
- Early Career: Worked at Georgetown University Law Center's Domestic Violence Clinic, representing indigent clients in protective order cases. Since 2006, resided and worked in Loudoun County.
- Prosecutorial Experience: Served as a prosecutor in the Loudoun County Commonwealth's Attorney's office, handling cases including domestic assault, stalking, elder abuse, rape, child exploitation, child abuse, felony assault, and murder.
- Political Roles: Current committees include Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources; Rural Affairs Subcommittee ; Privileges & Elections; Rehabilitation and Social Services; and Courts of Justice. Also serves on the bipartisan Military and Veterans Caucus and boards such as the Board of Veterans Services, Forensic Sciences Board, and State Water Commission.
