Biography

Royce Duplessis is a Democratic State Senator representing District 5 in Louisiana, covering parts of Jefferson and Orleans Parishes. Elected to the Louisiana House in a special election in 2018 for District 93 in New Orleans, he later won election to the Senate in 2022, eligible to serve through the 2032-2036 term. A practicing attorney with a solo civil litigation practice, he previously served as Special Counsel to the Louisiana Supreme Court and Chairman of the New Orleans City Planning Commission. Notable achievements include passing over 40 bills since 2018, such as lowering homeowners insurance costs via the fortified roof program, prohibiting insurance denials for displaced residents, extending the Earned Income Tax Credit, limiting juvenile solitary confinement, expanding workforce training and expungements, and securing Louisiana’s Second Black Congressional District through redistricting. He advocates for living wages, paid sick leave, early childhood education, and criminal justice reform, serving on boards like Innocence Project New Orleans and the Governor’s Council on the Success of Black Men and Boys. A Past President of the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, he has mentored teens via Silverback Society since 2012. Married to Krystle Ferbos Duplessis, they have a daughter, Reese, and reside in Central City.
