Ron Wyden was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1949. He attended the University of California Santa Barbara on a basketball scholarship, and later graduated from Stanford University with a degree in law. In 1980, Wyden was elected to the United States House of Representatives, representing Oregon's 3rd congressional district. He served in the House from 1981 to 1996. Wyden was known for his liberal politics and pushed environmental issues. In 1996, Wyden was elected to the U.S. Senate seat once held by Bob Packwood. Wyden sits on the Senate Committee on Finance and previously chaired the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources from 2009-2011.read less
