Biography
Ronald W. Ryckman Sr. is a Republican state senator representing District 38 in the Kansas State Legislature. Born on December 16, 1948, he was raised in western Kansas and has resided in Johnson County for the past 25+ years. He serves as Vice Chair in legislative committees and has a history of leadership, including as Speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives. Ryckman and his wife Kim have been married for over 22 years and have three children: Haley, Christian, and Chase.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended MidAmerica Nazarene University as a student athlete, studying business.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Olathe City Council in 2009; elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in 2012, 2014, and 2016, where he was soon after elected Speaker. Previously chaired the House Social Services Budget Committee and House Appropriations Committee. Currently serves as Kansas State Senator for District 38.
