Biography

Ron Reynolds

Ronald Eugene Reynolds was born on September 18, 1973, in Jackson, Tennessee. He is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, representing District 27, which includes parts of Fort Bend County and the Missouri City area.

Reynolds made history as the first African American State Representative in Fort Bend County since Reconstruction. He was first elected to the Texas House in 2010 after a close primary contest in 2008, and was sworn in on January 10, 2011. He is currently serving his seventh term.

A devout Christian and dedicated community advocate, Reynolds has been recognized for his legislative achievements, including being named "2021 87th Session Legislator of the Year" by Fort Bend United and The Young & the Politics. His House colleagues voted him "Freshman Legislator of the Year," and the Houston Minority Contractors Association named him "Public Servant of the Year."

Reynolds is a proud father of three children and maintains active involvement in philanthropy, mentoring, and supporting charities for the homeless.

Education

Reynolds holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Affairs from Texas Southern University and a Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law. He has also received three Honorary Doctorates: "Doctor of Humanities" from Trinity International University of Ambassadors, "Doctor of Philosophy in Humanitarianism," and a "Doctorate of Divinity" from Pendleton Chapel Seminary.

Political Experience

Reynolds served as House Minority Whip during the 83rd and 84th Legislative sessions. He currently holds several prominent leadership positions, including Chair of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus, Vice Chair of the Texas Energy & Climate Caucus, and Ranking Member on the House Committee on Environmental Regulation and Land & Resource Management.

He founded and previously chaired the Texas House Progressive Caucus and serves as Legislative Leader for the Texas State NAACP and the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats. His current committee assignments include Energy Resources, Environmental Regulation, and House Administration.

Prior to his election to the State House, Reynolds practiced law as an attorney and managing partner at Brown, Brown & Reynolds. He served as an Associate Municipal Judge for the City of Houston, Past President of the Houston Lawyers Association, and Past President of the Missouri City & Vicinity NAACP. He is also an adjunct professor at Texas Southern University's College of Public Affairs.
