Biography
Ron Alting is a Republican state senator representing District 22 in the Indiana State Senate, which includes most of Tippecanoe County. Born on March 15, 1956, in Lafayette, Indiana, he resides in Lafayette with his wife Pam and two children, Ronnie Jr. and Ashley. A Methodist, Alting works as a Key Account Specialist at Tipmont Rural Electric Membership Cooperative. Notable achievements include sponsoring tax cuts totaling billions, including Indiana's largest in state history, making the state's income tax one of the nation's lowest; chairing the Public Policy Committee; serving as Majority Floor Leader Emeritus and former Assistant Majority Whip; advocating for a hate crimes bill with protections for sexual orientation and gender identity ; expressing pro-choice views in 2022 by opposing a near-total abortion ban; and prior service on the Lafayette City Council as president .
