Biography
Roger J. Skraba is a Republican member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 3A in northern Minnesota, which includes cities like International Falls and Ely, and parts of Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis Counties. A U.S. Army veteran , business owner, and former mayor of Ely , he was first elected to the House in 2022 after a narrow victory by 15 votes following a recount, and won re-election in 2024 with 55.54% of the vote. Notable achievements include supporting northern Minnesota's tourism and mining industries, co-sponsoring a bipartisan bill extending unemployment benefits to laid-off miners , and backing a 2023 infrastructure package with over $40 million for Northland projects.
Education
Skraba graduated from Ely Memorial High School and earned a bachelor's degree in construction management from North Dakota State University. He also completed the Blandin Leadership program.
Political Experience
Skraba's career spans multiple parties and roles: Ely City Councilor, St. Louis County Board of Adjustment and Planning Commission, and Mayor of Ely . He ran for the House in 2002 , 2015 special election , and won in 2022 and 2024 . Current House committees: Co-Vice Chair of Legacy Finance; member of Transportation Finance and Policy, Capital Investment, Housing Finance and Policy; also on the Legislative Citizens Commission on Minnesota Resources.
