Biography
Rodney Wayne Schamerhorn is a Republican member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, representing District 24, which includes Beauregard, Sabine, and Vernon parishes. Elected on October 14, 2023, with 60% of the vote, he is eligible to serve through 2028 and is a retired business owner in trucking, site work, rolloff container service, demolition, and construction debris landfill. He serves on committees including Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development; House and Governmental Affairs; Transportation, Highways and Public Works; and the Legislative Audit Advisory Council, and is part of the Central Louisiana Delegation Caucus, Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation, and Louisiana Rural Caucus.
Notable achievements include a 9/10 Legislator Scorecard from Citizens for a New Louisiana, a 100% Pro-Life voting record with Louisiana Right to Life, and being one of only 19 legislators to vote against breaking the spending cap . He introduced bills like HB380 to remove eminent domain for carbon dioxide sequestration, HB537 for liens aiding CO2 pipeline disaster victims, and HB207 creating penalties for unlawful swimming by minors in certain waterways; he also supported Constitutional Carry and closed party primaries .
