Biography

Rod Montoya

Rodney 'Rod' D. Montoya is a Republican member of the New Mexico State House of Representatives representing District 1, which includes San Juan County. Born on October 25, 1966, in Farmington, New Mexico, Montoya is a longtime resident of his district. He is married to Pearl and has four children and three grandchildren.

Education

Montoya attended Farmington High School in his hometown.

Political Experience

Montoya has served in the New Mexico State House of Representatives since 2015 and is a Real Estate Broker by occupation. He previously served as Chief of Staff to New Mexico Lieutenant Governor John Sanchez in 2011.

During his legislative tenure, Montoya held the position of Minority Whip from 2017 to 2023. He has been a member of several key committees, including:
